He was selected in the first round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, 9th overall, by the Dallas Stars.
After three seasons in Dallas, and a brief stint with the New York Rangers, he was dealt to the San Jose Sharks, where he played a key role as a checking forward and an agitator for four seasons.
He signed with the Edmonton Oilers just prior to the NHL lockout, and joined the team when the lockout ended.
He was part of the Cinderella Edmonton Oiler team that made a run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006. However, the Oilers lost in game 7 of the finals to the Carolina Hurricanes.
